This is definitely a sign of desperation.. and also stupidity. Some Americans are not as culturally evolved as they would like to believe.
What difference does it make the color of a person's skin? Dr Martin Luther King Jr was a great orator and mover of the people. He showed more maturity, intelligence, and courage than all of these dumb yokels who say stupid stuff like,
"If we have a Black president, the country will be run by Blacks," or
"I'm not comfortable with the fact that he and Michelle Obama are anti-White."
FACEPALM. Seriously??
What I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to do is have one of those yokels (only one because in case I have to defend myself against one of these ignorant beer-chugging gun-toting anti-abortion Palin-loving hillbillies, I can only manage one person because I'm tiny) stand in front of me and tell me that Barack Obama is anti-White even though his mother and grandmother are WHITE.
No, Obama is no Muslim. He is Christian. Remember that big hullabaloo about his church minister being all radical? Yeah, his CHURCH minister. Obama attended a CHRISTIAN church.
No, Obama is not anti-White. Obama is HALF-WHITE. He recently took time off the campaign trail to visit his ailing WHITE grandmother in HAWAII, WHERE HE WAS BORN. In the meantime, his non-anti-White wife, the JCrew-H&M-and-Gap (all the marketing ads of which contain predominantly Caucasian models)-shopping Michelle Obama, led a few rallies, at which BOTH Whites and Blacks were present at an unsegregated area.
Oh, I can hear it now: "MLK was a good Black man, but he wasn't the President!" FACEPALM. Back then, both Black and White people still had to go around checking that water fountains, buses, and cinemas weren't still secretly segregated. I would think that they hardly had any time to consider running for President while innocents in the deep South were still being lynched and others fought for equality.
Even though I experienced racism from the other kids from elementary school all the way to junior high (I'm Asian, while the low-income neighborhood I lived in was Black and Hispanic, nary a White in sight), I am not letting those memories cloud my judgment because here is a man who can see beyond racial and ethnic lines. (Well, Hilary Clinton could too, but she's out of the race.) He is even-tempered and has consistently chosen to take the high road, never pointing out McCain's hypocrisy during the debates and never losing his temper or momentum while McCain took cheap shots) while McCain and his cronies think up of more and more underhanded ways to scare the more ignorant parts of the country into submission.
And Palin! OMG that stupid woman Palin. She says she has gay friends, but a lot of poking around by resourceful people has revealed that she has none. She says she sold the plane on eBay, but she didn't. She says she opposed the Bridge to Nowhere from the beginning, but that's false. You can't believe her if she says she has multi-racial friends. As if being inexperienced and unable to come up with anything intelligent on her own to say wasn't bad enough, she has told so many lies and half-truths (I know I know, Obama hasn't had all of his facts right either, but if you look at PolitiFact and FactCheck, Obama has gotten it wrong LESS FREQUENTLY than McCain) that it's really hard to believe anything she says. Will $150,000 worth of high-end clothes go to charity? Not intentionally, but media outlets and the hundreds of bloggers keeping all of these things in perspective will make sure that they do.
Before I forget, even funnier is the guy who said that Sarah Palin is filled with the Holy Spirit and will bring honesty back to the White House. She couldn't even bring about honesty when she was mayor and governor in Alaska! SHE was the one abusing her powers!!
The more I think about the absurdity of race playing into this election, the more frustrated I get, but yet I can't tear my eyes away!
I have met a few people who say that neither McCain nor Obama are really good candidates, and that they are voting third-party. Okay, it's clear that a third party will not win (otherwise, there would be purple states LOL), and if you're really strapped, pick the lesser of the two evils. The old hot-tempered vet with an unsettling medical history and questionable decision-making skills, or the younger optimistic Black senator who has shown great wisdom, open-mindedness and lack of discrimination in spite of his relative inexperience?
You go girlfriend! Speak your mind. I agree with a lot of what you said up there. Great post!
